Toward a Global Ethic: Initial Declaration (1993) (PDF)

A worthy statement from The Council for a Parliament of World Religions.
This document was introduced at the 1993 Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago, USA. One hundred years later, the drafting of Toward a Global Ethic and the 1993 event itself marked the continuation of a tradition first born at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893 when several hundred leaders, scholars, theologians, and other representatives of the world’s religions came together to ponder the place of faith and spirituality in the modern world. As the deliberate formal encounter of many religions this unprecedented gathering marked the beginning of modern interreligious dialogue. Toward a Global Ethic addresses the fundamental actions that the global community needs to make in order to create positive social change. Click here (PDF) to download this document.
